About Southern Cayuga Central School District

The Southern Cayuga School District enjoys an ideal setting in the Finger Lakes region of Central New York.  Stretching from Cayuga to Owasco Lakes, the district is located about 15 miles from Auburn, 25 miles from Ithaca, 40 miles from Syracuse and 60 miles from Rochester.

The student population is currently about 750. Our community roots are fimly established in traditional agriculture; district residents also include professionals working at Cornell University and Wells, Ithaca and Cayuga Community Colleges and local, regional and international businesses.  Southern Cayuga, Wells College and Syracuse University are active partners, benefitting learners from each of these institutions.

Our students are housed on one campus, in a building which includes the Emily Howland Elementary School for grades pre-K to 6th and the Junior/Senior High School for grades 7-12.  The district has its own planetarium and observatory, with programming available for students and community members.

We are committed to the success of our students, offering a wide range of courses in the area of fine arts; high school students have access to advanced placement and college courses, as well as tech prep programs in agriculture, business, technology education; and programs for career preparation.  Our well-established academic assistance programs use achievement data to diagnose student needs and prescribe instruction using scientifically based research.  Integrating instructional technology into the curriculum has become a strong priority for students and staff .
