Southern Cayuga Students Excel on 2024 NYS ELA and Math Assessments
We are thrilled to share that Southern Cayuga students in grades 3–8 have once again achieved outstanding results on the 2024 New York State ELA and Math assessments. Their performance not only places them as top achievers in Cayuga County but also highlights their excellence among the over 50 school districts in the Central New York (CNY) region. This year’s achievements reflect significant progress and are a testament to our students’ hard work and dedication.

SCCS Testing Overview
- NYS State Assessment results show growth 2023 v 2024.
- Overall proficiency (L3 & L4) is up 1 pt on Math to 64% and 3 pts on ELA to 54%.
- #1 overall 3-8 exam proficiency rate (level 3 & 4) for ELA and math for all schools in Cayuga County.
- Overall top 10 proficiency performance of all schools in the CNY region.
According to NYSED.gov, NYS State exams are used to measure the extent to which individual students achieve the NYS learning standards in particular subjects and to determine whether schools, districts and the State meet the required progress targets specified in the NYS accountability system and in Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). These annual tests are designed to measure how well students are mastering the learning standards that guide classroom instruction and help to ensure that students are on track to graduate from high school with the critical thinking, problem solving, and reasoning skills needed for success in college and the workforce.
