SCCS Wrestling Achievement

(2/18/25) - Congratulations to Evan Sheils (Grade 10) on qualifying for the NY State Wrestling Tournament in Albany, NY, which will take place from February 28 to March 1. SCCS partners with Lansing to offer wrestling to our students. During the 2024-25 season, Evan competed for Lansing at 131 pounds and amassed a 36-10 record, an amazing accomplishment.

At the conclusion of the season, Evan placed 2nd at the sectional qualifier last week and entered the Section 4 Boys Wrestling Championships as the 7th seed. Held on February 16 at Visions Veterans Memorial Arena in Binghamton, NY, the tournament saw Evan win his preliminary match before falling to the #2 seed in the quarterfinals. Undeterred, he battled back, defeating the #3, #4, and #5 seeds to secure 3rd place. In his final match, Evan claimed a decisive 7-2 victory over his opponent from the Unadilla Valley combined team, earning his spot at States.

Evan is the first SCCS wrestler in over 20 years to qualify for the State Tournament—a significant achievement! We are incredibly proud of his hard work and determination this season and wish him all the best in Albany!
