Dear Southern Cayuga Central School District Members,
We are excited to announce the next steps in selecting our new district mascot! After careful consideration, the Board of Education (BOE) has established a process for a public vote to finalize the choice between our top two contenders: Falcons and Knights. Below are the key details for ensuring a smooth and transparent selection process.
Students, staff, and community members can vote in person on November 20, 2024. Community members may vote at the district office from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM, while students and staff will cast their votes in their respective buildings. If the date is inconvenient, please email mascot@southerncayuga.org by November 13, 2024, and we will make special arrangements.
All district residents are eligible to vote at the time of the election. Registered voters will check in using the same process as budget votes at the district office. Non-registered district members will need to bring a valid ID with proof of address.
Rest assured, all completed ballots will be kept confidential, with independent oversight, and will be counted after the election concludes. Due to the time required to count paper ballots, the district plans to announce the winning selection on November 22, 2024. Once the final selection is made, a committee comprising students, staff, and community members will collaborate with a professional graphic artist to create a visual representation of the mascot.
